WHAT'S THE MEANING?
PDF stands for Portable Document Format which is an electronic file format used to present and exchange documents. The PDF was first pioneered by Adobe and is now an open standard maintained by the International Organization for Standardization or ISO. PDFs can contain links and buttons, form fields, audio, video, and more.
DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know that PDFs are not necessarily considered as a true eBook format? These formats are namely the ePUB and MOBI format. Although PDFs are viewed electronically, PDFs have a fixed layout and the text may be difficult to read on an eReader because the font cannot be adjusted. However, many eBook readers still resort to converting ePUB format to PDF files for it to be easier to read novels and online books on their tablets or desktop computers.
Many websites that provide eBook formats such as Smashwords offers a PDF as an e-format option for sale. Another notable website that utilizes using PDF as a free digital format for reading is Archive of Our Own or AO3, which is an open source for fanworks and fanfiction. The stories on AO3 can be downloaded as a PDF for offline reading. Although PDFs are not considered as eBooks, a lot of novels can be acquired in this format.
